Step up to Prep

Step Up to Prep is a free school readiness program for children enrolled in Prep at Sunshine North Primary School for the following year.

The program supports a smooth transition from kindergarten to school by helping children develop confidence and important early learning skills, including literacy, numeracy, oral language, and fine and gross motor skills. Children also become familiar with the school environment, routines, staff and future classmates, helping them feel safe, connected and ready to learn. The program also provides opportunities for children to develop friendships, build positive relationships with their peers, and strengthen their social skills in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Families are encouraged to be active partners in their child’s learning and are provided with practical resources and ideas to support learning at home.

As part of the program, children will participate in different activities, including reading books, solving puzzles, games and learning experiences designed to strengthen early literacy and numeracy skills while encouraging family engagement. These activities also support collaboration, communication and friendship-building among children.

Program Details

• Who: Children enrolled in Prep at Sunshine North Primary School for the following year
• When: Fridays during Terms 3 and 4
• Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
• Where: Rainbow Room, Sunshine North Primary School
• Cost: Free

Throughout the program, children will also have opportunities to explore different areas of the school, including the playgrounds, hall, performing arts room and art room, helping them feel confident and excited about starting school while developing a sense of belonging within the school community.
