Student Wellbeing
Every Child, Every Opportunity and Every Day.
We cultivate a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and heard. Through targeted efforts, we develop crucial social and emotional skills, fostering positive attitudes towards self, others, school, and community engagement. This supports academic engagement and excellence in self and learning.
The school uses the School Wide Positive Behaviours Framework, Respectful Relationships Program and Life Skills Go app to ensure that student wellbeing is at the centre of daily engagement and learning.
SWPBS
At Sunshine North Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, calm, inclusive and positive learning environment where every student can thrive. Our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework guides how we teach, model and reinforce behaviour across all areas of the school.
SWPBS is a whole-school approach that focuses on explicitly teaching expected behaviours in the same way we teach academic skills. Students are supported to understand what Respect, Safety and Responsibility look like in different settings across the school. These expectations are grounded in our school values of Connect, Collaborate, Resilience and Excellence.
Our SWPBS journey officially began in September 2023 when staff voted to implement the framework. Since then, we have worked collaboratively to build strong foundations and consistent systems that support student wellbeing, behaviour and engagement. This has included developing a whole school behaviour matrix, creating classroom and specialist area matrices, establishing clear behaviour management procedures, and strengthening positive acknowledgement systems across the school.
At Sunshine North Primary School, we believe behaviour needs to be clearly taught and consistently supported. Staff use common language and explicit teaching to help students understand expectations and make positive choices. Building strong relationships, creating predictable routines and responding calmly to behaviour are important parts of our approach.
Student voice is also an important part of our SWPBS framework. Our Student SWPBS Team works alongside staff to provide feedback, promote school values and help shape a positive school culture. Families are regularly informed about our work through newsletters, assemblies, meetings and community updates.
As our framework continues to grow, we remain focused on consistency, inclusion and continuous improvement. Our goal is for every student at Sunshine North Primary School to feel connected, supported and ready to learn every day.
