Kitchen & Garden
Every Child, Every Opportunity and Every Day.
Sunshine North Primary School is a proud Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden School. This program is provided to all year levels with hands-on food education. Prep – Grade 2 students are introduced to the kitchen and garden program in a 3-week program every year. Students in Years 3–6 participate in weekly kitchen and garden sessions for two terms.
Guided by our Garden Educator students learn to grow, harvest, and care for a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs using organic gardening practices. In the kitchen, led by Kitchen Educator, they prepare and share delicious meals using seasonal produce they have grown in the school garden.
The program promotes a “Plant to Plate’ approach, helping students develop essential life skills, build confidence, and form positive food habits. It also supports learning across the curriculum while fostering collaboration, independence, creativity, and wellbeing through shared experiences.
